Brazil have won the gold medal in the men’s football at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Neymar scored a beautiful freekick in the 27th minute which sent fans into a frenzy.
Brazil were better side through out the game after the forwards created numerous chances but failed to take their chances. The epic encounter went to penalty shootout but Nils Petersen failed to convert – and like a written script, Neymar stepped forward to score the winning penalty.
Recall that Germany overcame Nigeria 2 – 0 to get to the final while Brazil defeated Honduras 6 – 0 in their semi-final clash. The gold medal is Brazil’s first in football at the Olympics ever. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Dream Team Vi secured the bronze medal having defeated Honduras 3-2 in the third place play-off at the men’s football tournament.
