Nine dead in Salah jams stampede in Kumasi

The tragedy occurred on Thursday dawn, killing six females and three males, according to a report by myjoyonline.com.

Several other people are said to be receiving treatment at the Manhyia Hospital.

The report said between 200 and 300 people were in the centre when the stampede broke out.

Conflicting reports have been given as to what triggered the stampede.
While one survivor said sudden power outage led to panic which caused many people to head for the exit, another said a fight had broken out inside, causing them to flee.

“I was bitten by several people in my fight to get out. Some people were stepping on me while others were throwing their hands for help to get out,” one survivor was quoted as saying.
The jams were being held as part of the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations on Wednesday and were expected to last from 8pm to 2pm.
